Show Notes

It's a rare excursion outside of Manitoba for a chat with Rob Piquette, one of the hosts of Checkered Past: A Ska'd Cast.

We talked podcasting, the past, present and future of ska music — including, of course, his views on Winnipeg’s ska scene growing up in Alberta — and much more!

It’s a departure from the usual (very Manitoba-centric) guests I have on the show, but I had a blast with Rob (and his sister and co-host Celine) last year on an episode of their show about JFK & the Conspirators, so I wanted to return the favour.

This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company.

Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on Patreon! You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! You can also throw a one-time tip via Buymeacoffee.

As always, if you like the podcast, please tell a friend or 20! Rate and review on your podcast player of choice! Word of mouth is still the main way Witchpolice Radio reaches new ears.

Thanks for listening!

WR199: Union Stockyards

Marking their third appearance on the podcast in as many years, grizzled Winnipeg punks Union Stockyards (three-quarters of them, anyway) are back! We talk about their about-to-be-released cassette, a healthy amount of Winnipeg '90s nostalgia, and about their Sept. 28 gig opening for the legendary SNFU! ...

WR323: Mobina Galore

Occasional co-host Ryan is back for this episode, taking over the main hosting duties alongside Tony Beaudoin of Union Stockyards. Together, they interviewed punk rock power duo [Mobina Galore](http://www.mobinagalore.com) a few months back, presented here in podcast form. Mobina Galore were first on the podcast [way back in 2014](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/3551914c1b2ceaL/), so obviously a lot has happened since then, especially since their career has absolutely skyrocketed. Ryan and Tony get into some of the highlights with them and much, much more! This episode brought to you by our friends at the [Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/). Thanks to everyone who has supported the podcast thus far. Thanks to supporters like you, we can keep churning out interviews twice a week! If you like the show, please head down to [patreon.com/witchpolice](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice) and for as little as $1 a month (less than 12 cents an episode), you can help keep the lights on! ...

WR495: Epirus

It's a conversation (recorded from inside a closet) with local metalcore outfit [Epirus](http://epirus.bandcamp.com/releases)! We talked about their upcoming EP, life as a band during the pandemic, easycore (which was a new one on me), and much more. This episode is slightly shorter than usual, because there's only one song as opposed to the usual four. Their EP isn't out yet, so the only track we used in the podcast was the debut single, "It's Not Me". This episode is brought to you by our friends [the Dirty Beat](http://www.instagram.com/thedirtybeat/) and [Jared Adams](http://tragicnostalgia.ca/). Don’t forget to help out our pals at [the Park Theatre](http://www.gofundme.com/f/a-helping-high-five-for-the-park-theatre)!
