Show Notes

This episode features a conversation with post-hardcore (or whatever subgenre you feel like calling it) outfit Prinport!

We talked about getting back to playing shows and the emotional catharsis of performing live, their songwriting style that can have a complete tonal switch mid-song, the origins of their weird-ass name, and much more!

This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company and by Gruf and Yy's new 'Mental Health Day' album on Saskatoon Folk Rap Records.

Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on Patreon! You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! You can also throw a one-time tip via Buymeacoffee.

WR540: Black-Eyed Suzie

“Dark folk” (but also sometimes alt-rock and kinda metal but not obviously so...) group [Black-Eyed Suzie](http://black-eyedsuzie.com/) is on the show! We talked about the project’s long history, its roots as a family band, breaking into the Winnipeg music scene as a group from out of town, and a whole lot more. This episode brought to you by [Rob Crooks](http://robcrooks.bandcamp.com/) and [Saskatoon Folk Rap Records](http://saskatoonfolkraprecords.bandcamp.com/), as well as [Devine Shirt Company](http://devineshirtcompany.ca/)! WR498: Gold Mountain

It’s always a blast talking to the [Gold Mountain](http://goldmountainsound.bandcamp.com/) gang on the podcast. I just recorded a new interview with 3/5 of the Winnipeg indie rock band, and we talked about their lineup reaching its final form, ‘emotionality’ in songwriting, the uniquely weird situation we’re all in with the pandemic, and a whole lot more. Note: because there are three interviewees on a remote call, the audio quality is not as solid as the one-on-one remote episodes, but it's still definitely listenable, and it's always a great conversation with this band. This episode is brought to you by [Never Better Coffee](http://www.neverbettercoffee.ca/)! Don’t forget to check out some socially-distanced shows at [the Park Theatre](https://www.myparktheatre.com/), who have slowly reopened after a long COVID-19 closure. WR411: Luciano

I spent some time with an absolute legend for this episode. Iconic reggae artist [Luciano](http://lucianomessenjah.com/) was in town, live and direct from Jamaica, for a performance Aug. 23 at the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain. Although I had [interviewed Luciano four or five years ago](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/3519538383436eL/), that was over the phone, and this was my first time meeting The Messenger in person. He's an artist with an unbelievably deep catalogue and international acclaim, but he's down-to-earth enough to hang out in a coffee shop for a podcast interview – and to get into some deep thoughts as well. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/), who are presenting this year's Manitoba Podcast Festival on Sept. 29! It’s also brought to you by [Wildflower Media](http://wildflowermedia.ca/), a local media and graphic design company that specializes in websites and graphic design, especially posters and social media graphics. Listeners to the podcast can get a discount (between 20%-50%) on various Wildflower services by visiting [wildflowermedia.ca/witchpolice](http://wildflowermedia.ca/witchpolice)! ...
