Show Notes

It was great to catch up with Ed Durocher, guitarist and bandleader of 10-piece instrumental juggernaut Apollo Suns!

We talked about getting back on the road, making inroads in the US, defining their sound (or not), their new music, and much more!

This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company and by Gruf and Yy's new 'Mental Health Day' album, which comes out Dec. 29!

Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on Patreon! You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! You can also throw a one-time tip via Buymeacoffee.

WR522: Riel

Local Metis folk singer [Riel](http://www.instagram.com/this_is_riel/) -- formerly known as [A Rebel Named Riel](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr317-a-rebel-named-riel-36992bdcad863c/) -- is on the show to talk all about his new solo persona, more emotional songwriting, upcoming new music, and much more! We also touch on his rewarding (musical) day job, as well as Manitoba’s Indigenous music scene! Because his new stuff is coming out imminently, but isn't quite ready yet, we didn't include any of the songs on the episode, which means it's a bit shorter than usual, but it's a really fun chat -- and the songs are worth the wait, based on the previews he shared with me. This episode brought to you by the Gumshoe Strut’s new [Heartbeat EP](http://thegumshoestrut.bandcamp.com/album/heartbeat-ep) from Saskatoon Folk Rap Records! Check out our pals at [Devine Shirt Company](http://devineshirtcompany.ca/) for your merch needs, and congratulations to the [Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/) on its 15th anniversary! Join us at the third annual [Manitoba Podcast Festival](http://www.facebook.com/mbpodfest/), which takes place entirely online, Sept. 26-27! WR007: Fire

The fellas and I took a break from Witchpolice Radio over the holidays, so our loyal listeners (all 10 of them) had to go without the dulcet tones of our voices for two whole weeks. I imagine the withdrawal must have been terrible. Anyway, we return with episode 7, themed around fire. If it sounds like we're just getting these themes from a random word generator... well, we kind of are. As usual on the show, we all pick songs that are loosely based on the one-word theme, and this week turned out to be a pretty awesome selection. We did get a little sidetracked by a series of long rants about neck tattoos, mind you. ...

WR310: Vic Ruggiero live!

This isn't a normal episode of the podcast. There's no interview, no format... it's almost two unedited hours of live music recorded in my backyard. New York singer-songwriter (and frontman of the legendary Slackers) [Vic Ruggiero](http://www.facebook.com/vicruggiero) earlier this month, and he stopped by the house for an intimate solo set on my deck. This 'episode' is a relatively lo-fi recording of the full show. Thanks to Winnipeg ska legend [Greg Milka Crowe](http://myspace.com/gregmilkacrowe) for opening the show (unfortunately I didn't get his set recorded), to Ian Lodewyks (who plays bass for Vic on some of these songs) for his major role in making this surreal experience a reality, and to everyone who came out to enjoy a world-class artist in such a casual setting. I've been a fan of Vic's music for over 20 years, and this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm so glad it happened, and I'm glad I'm able to share it, in some way, with the rest of you. Enjoy. We'll be back to your regularly-scheduled episodes of Witchpolice Radio on Wednesday. ...
