Show Notes

It's a donut shop sit-down with all three members of long-running alt-rockers (or are they?) [WHY](http://www.whytheband.com/)! We talked about defining “alternative” in 2019, what success really means, the group’s long history and ‘90s roots, the new(ish), definitive lineup... and much more! This episode brought to you by our pals at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/)! A HUGE thanks goes out to everyone who has [supported the fundraiser](http://www.gofundme.com/witchpolice-radio-improvement-fund). I’ve been raising $ to upgrade to better-quality recording gear, and the response has been phenomenal. New episodes with new gear coming soon!

WR620: Greg Soden of Unscripted Moments

Here's a “Winnipeg-adjacent” episode with Greg Soden, one of the hosts of U.S.-based Unscripted Moments: A Podcast About Propagandhi, a thoroughly-researched song-by-song deep dive into Winnipeg’s own Propagandhi! We got a bit nerdy about the podcast biz, talked about the impact the band has had on Greg and his listeners, the amount of research that goes into each episode, and much more! NOTE: I recorded this in a different spot than my usual office/studio location, so my end of the conversation is a bit roomy-sounding, but certainly not enough to detract from the quality of the interview. This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company.Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on Patreon. You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! You can also throw a one-time tip via Buymeacoffee. As always, if you like the podcast, please tell a friend or 20! Rate and review on your podcast player of choice! Word of mouth is still the main way Witchpolice Radio reaches new ears. Thanks for listening! ...

WR400: Joe Boy Rock of Machina II

It's the 400th episode of Witchpolice Radio, which means it's OF COURSE the one where I've lost my voice and am wheezing out my questions. Thankfully, the guest on this episode, [Joe Boy Rock](http://joeboyrock.bandcamp.com/releases) of local hip-hop duo [Machina II](http://soundcloud.com/machinaii/), has a lot of insightful things to say about the local music scene, rap, DIY, and a lot more. This episode is brought to you by [Howl at the Moon](http://howlatthemoonfest.com/), Manitoba’s newest and most exciting country music festival, July 25-27, and by our pals at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/). Don’t forget to support our friends at [Dub Ditch Picnic](http://dubditchpicnic.bandcamp.com/), who are trying to clear out as much stock as possible to [cover some medical costs](http://www.facebook.com/crizwell/posts/10156105481525636). ...

WR057: Buggsy #1

Witchpolice Radio went outernational this week! While we've talked to out-of-town guests on the show before, this episode marks the first time we've had a guest from overseas. Joining us on the line from Bristol, UK, to talk about this week's "alarm" theme -- and his righteous new album The Great Escape: Season Two -- was Buggsy #1.   Buggsy talked at great length about England's rap scene, the influence of reggae and dancehall on the culture, and growing up in a Rasta community. It's an interesting chat, and while he couldn't perform live like some of our in-studio guests have in the past (because of the whole in England thing), he did deliver some a cappella lyrics during the discussion. Do yourself a favour and check out his music now. ...
