Show Notes

As many of you know, especially those of you here in Winnipeg, Dub Ditch Picnic Records' Chris Jacques died last week. Chris meant an awful lot to the community, and was a good friend and inspiration to so many people in the local music scene -- going back decades.

He was also a guest on this podcast twice -- once on an early episode in 2014, and again for a one-on-one interview about Dub Ditch's 10th anniversary in 2020. Both of those episodes are here in one two-hour-and-fifteen-minute mega-podcast for those who want to remember him.

The 2014 episode, in particular, was one of the 'lost episodes' -- a series of about 40 podcasts from the early days that, due to my technological incompetence, didn't get added to to the Witchpolice Radio feed when I switched podcast hosting companies, and hasn't been easy to find in the time since.

Please enjoy. It's not really a tribute to Chris so much as a reminder of what he was passionate about with Dub Ditch and his other labels (Sundowning and Prairie Fire), and while he's not with us any more, all of the releases he worked so hard on -- and there's a lot of them -- are still on Bandcamp in perpetuity. Check 'em out.

(Also, I totally stole this photo from a great piece on Dub Ditch from years back by Sheldon Birnie. You should read that too).

Thanks for everything, Chris. You are very missed by all of us.

WR407: Slattern (From The Archives)

When I transferred the huge Witchpolice archive over to the current hosting site, about 50 episodes from 2013-2014 got missed. Although they've always been available, buried on the old Witchpolice site, they've never been formally discoverable on podcast platforms like Spotify or Apple Podcasts. I [recently asked listeners](http://www.facebook.com/WitchpoliceRadio/posts/2248282975270760) which of these lost episode(s) they'd like to hear re-released, this one – with Julia Ryckman, a/k/a [Slattern](http://www.juliaryckmanslattern.com/) – was easily the most-requested. At the time this episode (WR084) originally came out in July 2014, Witchpolice Radio had a very different format. We (I wasn't the only host!) weren't only interviewing local musicians, but were asking them to select songs from their own record collections based on randomly-generated theme words. Due to the sketchy legality of broadcasting other people's songs without permission, the selections are edited out of this episode, but it's still a great conversation, and was one of my favourites of the early years of the podcast. This episode is brought to you by Osborne Village’s new pop-up record store, [Old Gold Vintage Vinyl](http://www.instagram.com/oldgoldvintagevinyl204/), and by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/). ...

WR705: Desiree Dorion

I had a great conversation with award-winning country singer Desiree Dorion about growing up in the shadow of Dauphin’s Countryfest, the challenges of releasing an album on the eve of a global pandemic, the great Americana record she has in her back pocket, potentially criminal (haha) teenage shenanigans, and much more. This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company, who have brand new Witchpolice merch in the works! Watch for that! Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on Patreon! You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! You can also throw a one-time tip via Buymeacoffee. As always, if you like the podcast, please tell a friend or 20! Rate and review on your podcast player of choice! Word of mouth is still the main way Witchpolice Radio reaches new ears. Thanks for listening! ...

WR360: Lounge FM

Welcome to a weird experiment! This isn't a typical episode of Witchpolice Radio. For this one, we hosted a secret show, featuring a live interview and performance with local Friday night bath music quartet [Lounge FM](http://loungefm.bandcamp.com/). The whole thing played out in front of an audience of about 10 people in an intimate little room (shoutout [Giant Skellies](http://soundcloud.com/giant-skellies)!) and it was a blast. As noted in the intro, the interview portion of this episode is pretty lo-fi, but it gave us some good ideas on how to improve it if we do more secret shows in the future. The music, of course, sounds great. This epsiode was brought to you by our friends at the [SUNWOLF](http://thesunwolflabel.com/) label, who are releasing the debut by Katie & the Wolves March. 22, as well as by Winnipeg’s own [Death Cassette](http://deathcassettemusic.bandcamp.com/releases), who are performing at the Handsome Daughter on Feb. 23. Thanks to everyone who has supported the podcast thus far. Thanks to supporters like you, we can keep churning out interviews twice a week! If you like the show, please head down to [patreon.com/witchpolice](http://patreon.com/witchpolice) and for as little as a $1 month (less than 12 cents an episode), you can help keep the lights on! ...
