Show Notes

Local black metal/noise rock/hardcore/etc. outfit Eulogist were one of my favourite discoveries (you may have already been familiar with them) during the pandemic.

I hung out with three members of the band and talked about their new lineup, in-progress album, the beauty of tapes, being a Winnipeg band with one member in Ontario, and more!

WR620: Greg Soden of Unscripted Moments

Here's a “Winnipeg-adjacent” episode with Greg Soden, one of the hosts of U.S.-based Unscripted Moments: A Podcast About Propagandhi, a thoroughly-researched song-by-song deep dive into Winnipeg’s own Propagandhi! We got a bit nerdy about the podcast biz, talked about the impact the band has had on Greg and his listeners, the amount of research that goes into each episode, and much more! NOTE: I recorded this in a different spot than my usual office/studio location, so my end of the conversation is a bit roomy-sounding, but certainly not enough to detract from the quality of the interview. Episode 390

WR390: Michael Falk

Michael Falk is the artistic director at [Jazz Winnipeg](http://www.jazzwinnipeg.com/), as well as the man behind [Head in the Sand Records](http://headinthesand.ca/) and the former frontman of [Les Jupes](http://lesjupes.bandcamp.com/)... among many other roles in the Winnipeg music scene. We talk about all of that, this year's Jazz Fest lineup, and much more on this episode. Full disclosure: I do [freelance work for Jazz Winnipeg](http://www.jazzwinnipeg.com/blog/2019/2/23/welcome-to-alleyways), although I don't think it affects this podcast in any conflict-of-interest-y way. I would've wanted to have Mike on the show regardless. Also: I tried out the new recording gear for this episode (thank you everyone). As you can hear, I have a bit more practicing to do. Mike came through great, but I sound a bit distant. I figure with every episode I do, I'll get more an more familiar with the recorder and things will start to sound better and better. This episode brought to you by our pals at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/)! Don't forget to support our friends at [Dub Ditch Picnic](http://dubditchpicnic.bandcamp.com), who are [trying to clear out as much stock as possible](http://www.facebook.com/crizwell/posts/10156105481525636) to cover some medical costs. ...

WR508: Epic

For this episode, I'm joined by prairie rap legend Epic! We talked about the new [Saskatoon Folk Rap Records](http://saskatoonfolkraprecords.bandcamp.com/) label and its Winnipeg connections (namely upcoming releases by [Rob Crooks](http://robcrooks.bandcamp.com/) and [The Gumshoe Strut](http://thegumshoestrut.bandcamp.com/music)), about his own decade-plus hiatus from rapping and what it’s like to come back during a pandemic, and much more. A great chat with a true original. Watch for some deadly new releases from the label soon. This episode is brought to you by [Northern Royals](http://northernroyals.com/) and [Bad Gardening Advice](http://badgardeningadvice.com/) (who wrote me some lovely rhymes about the [Schmolaris Prize](http://badgardeningadvice.com/schmolaris-prize) to read on-air). Don’t forget to check out some socially-distanced shows at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), who have slowly reopened after a long COVID-19 closure.
