WR390: Michael Falk

Michael Falk is the artistic director at [Jazz Winnipeg](http://www.jazzwinnipeg.com/), as well as the man behind [Head in the Sand Records](http://headinthesand.ca/) and the former frontman of [Les Jupes](http://lesjupes.bandcamp.com/)... among many other roles in the Winnipeg music scene. We talk about all of that, this year's Jazz Fest lineup, and much more on this episode. Full disclosure: I do [freelance work for Jazz Winnipeg](http://www.jazzwinnipeg.com/blog/2019/2/23/welcome-to-alleyways), although I don't think it affects this podcast in any conflict-of-interest-y way. I would've wanted to have Mike on the show regardless. Also: I tried out the new recording gear for this episode (thank you everyone). As you can hear, I have a bit more practicing to do. Mike came through great, but I sound a bit distant. I figure with every episode I do, I'll get more an more familiar with the recorder and things will start to sound better and better. This episode brought to you by our pals at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/)! Don't forget to support our friends at [Dub Ditch Picnic](http://dubditchpicnic.bandcamp.com), who are [trying to clear out as much stock as possible](http://www.facebook.com/crizwell/posts/10156105481525636) to cover some medical costs. ...

WR290: Joe Curtis at Mom's House

As many of you are likely aware, I've been guest-hosting a (video) show about local musicians from time to time. It's called 'Mom's House', and it's the brainchild of a group of up-and-coming Manitoba filmmakers called Young Media. We decided to use the interview portions of the episodes I host and release them in audio form as bonus podcasts! This first Witchpolice at Mom's House episode features a great conversation with local singer-songwriter [Joe Curtis](http://www.joecurtisband.com/). The audio you're about to hear is just my interview with Joe. To see the full Mom's House episode, which includes live performances, head down to [Young Media's website](http://weareyoungmedia.com/the-moms-house-sessions) or their [YouTube channel](http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDcPW3OBfNHoOitVKkGhSlQ) to check it out. It should be available on Sunday. ...

WR218: Greg Rekus

Folk-punk troubadour Greg Rekus is one of those guys we've always wanted to have back on the show. His first appearance was at the beginning of 2014, but has a long history with us that pre-dates the podcast. Greg's old bands (Lacking Intelligence, later High Five Drive) played plenty of shows with our shitty bands as far back as the late '90s. Since 2011 or so, Greg has gone the solo acoustic route and he has engaged in non-stop touring. When we arrived at his house to do the interview, he had literally just come off the road minutes earlier after a 30-hour drive back to Winnipeg from Las Vegas! On this episode, Greg talks about his reputation as a road warrior, about his solid new record, Sibling Cities (which will be released at The Handsome Daughter this Friday if you're in Winnipeg) and about what the future holds for an old punk in a young man's game. If you notice an additional voice chiming in here and there, that's Paul, who was hanging out during the interview. ...
