Show Notes

Jazz pianist [Will Bonness](http://www.willbonness.com/) is on the show! We talked about his latest record, *Change of Plans*, and its deadly cover of “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”, about changing the perception that jazz is for the 70+ crowd, about the appeal of improvisation, and much more! This episode brought to you by our pals at [Devine Shirt Company](http://devineshirtcompany.ca/). Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). WR052: RasTamils

It’s a reggae-heavy episode this week as Rastamils frontman Franklin Fernando joins us to talk about the “empire” theme. Franklin, originally from Sri Lanka, has rejuvenated Winnipeg’s reggae scene with his group’s mashup of Caribbean and South Asian sounds. We’re also joined by Rastamils bassist Christian Devoin, who has a history in the local reggae scene dating back to the early 1990s, via phone. This episode includes a ticket giveaway to see Rastamils in concert in January for a live audio/video recording, so stay tuned to see how you can get your hands on those. Listen to the end of the episode to hear a live performance by Franklin. ...

WR289: Slow//Steady

Regular co-host Ryan Sanders hops in the driver's seat for this episode, bringing frequent guest Tony Beaudoin (of Union Stockyards) along for the ride. Together, they interview one-half of local punk rock supergroup [Slow//Steady](http://https://slowsteady.bandcamp.com/)! This episode was recorded a few months back, so since then, Slow//Steady has emerged from its cocoon and is back on the scene, having played a big show at the Good Will this past weekend. This episode is brought to you by our friends at the Park Theatre, who are presenting [Brujeria with Dayglo Abortions, Incite, and Suburban Hypocrites June 12](http://www.facebook.com/events/1845395175510863/). The episode is also brought to you by [Fourth Quarter Records](http://www.fourthquarterrecords.com/), your home for quality local hip-hop, as well as merchandise like the glorious 3Peat hoodies you've been seeing everywhere lately. ...

WR047: Live on UMFM

FEB. 2022 NOTE: Dave having been one of 600+ musicians interviewed on this show over the past decade DOES NOT mean anyone involved condones either the incident he was recently arrested for OR the various disgusting things he was accused of a few years prior. At the time of this podcast, he was just a guy in a band.   The podcast is usually prerecorded in a casual basement setting, often weeks prior to appearing on this website and months before being aired on 101.5 UMFM in Winnipeg. This week, however, is UMFM's annual Pledge-O-Rama fund drive, so we made the trek down to the UMFM studios at the University of Manitoba to do a live on-air broadcast.   Fortuitously, Dave Z, of such bands as The Brat Attack and Dead Peasants Revolt, happened to have one day left in his trip to Winnipeg from his new home in St. John's, Newfoundland, so he appeared as our guest. Former Brat Attack drummer -- and once and future Up n' Atom drummer -- Johnny Perrin made a surprise visit to the station while the show was underway and became guest number two.   UMFM's pledge drive runs until Oct. 25, so depending when you read this, there may still be time for you to support campus/community radio. There are a ton of amazing incentives for making a pledge. Just check out the station's website and be sure to mention Witchpolice Radio if you're planning on donating! ...
