Show Notes

There’s an excellent new (old) documentary out now about Winnipeg’s mid-‘00s hardcore scene, called [*The Manitoba Connection*](http://www.zellcoproductions.com/projects/the-manitoba-connection/). Here's a conversation with two guys whose bands were integral parts of that scene — Cam Scott (Under Pressure) and Russ Wardell (DSC, Hard Boiled). We talked about the film (directed by [Brian Barnhart](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm7224707/?ref_=tt_ov_dr)), their experiences in that tight-knit musical community, bands that time forgot, reflections on punk rock and society, and a whole lot more. I included some tracks in here by the likes of Under Pressure, [Hard Boiled](http://winnipeghardcorearchive.bandcamp.com/album/hard-boiled-demo-1998), [The Insaniacs](http://theinsaniacs.bandcamp.com/), and [Fuckmorgue](http://eyeandearcontrol.bandcamp.com/album/dead-i-will-not-be-forgotten). Check out the film today on Amazon Prime! This episode brought to you by [Lana Winterhalt](http://lanawinterhalt.bandcamp.com/), [Sean Burns](http://seanburns.bandcamp.com/), and [Unscripted Moments](http://unscriptedmoments.libsyn.com/)! Don’t forget to check out some socially-distanced shows at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), who have slowly reopened after a long COVID-19 closure. WR232: Rick Philip

Ryan takes on main hosting duties this week, alongside his creepy Uncle Tony (from Union Stockyards) as co-host. They sit down with the almighty Rick Philip, Winnipeg punk rock pioneer and frontman of Crown of Thorns. They talk shop about Rick's long history throughout the country and his upcoming show opening for the legendary Cro-Mags! This episode (which was actually recorded a couple of months back) acts as an unofficial preview of a Witchpolice spin-off podcast Ryan and Tony are going to host on a semi-regular basis, so stay tuned for more! The songs on this episode might be slightly out-of-order because they gave me a USB with some songs, with no indication of where in the podcast those songs should be placed. I guessed. Sorry. ...

WR277: Sorrier

Way back over the Xmas holidays, Winnipeg expat Zac Houston, a/k/a [Sorrier](http://sorrier.bandcamp.com/releases), was back in town (briefly) to do the family thing and sneak in a recording session with superproducer Jordan Voth for his second album. We had a chance to meet up and talk about the new songs, playing acoustically vs. loud punk rock, his previous role fronting emo outfit Boys' Club, and much more! We held off on the release of this episode because he's about to come back to town for a [huge album release show](http://www.facebook.com/events/330092237479233/), which includes one-time Boys' Club reunion! Head down to the new Club St. B on March 31 for that show, which also features Fox Lake and Sit Calm! This episode brought to you by the [Winnipeg Comedy Showcase 4-Year Anniversary](http://www.facebook.com/events/1816043645133279/), March 30 at the Park Theatre, and by [Low Cloud](http://www.lowcloud.ca/) -- a local, legal online distributor of CBD products.
