WR254: Minus 40

Reports of ska's death have been greatly exaggerated. New-on-the-scene Winnipeg act [Minus 40](https://www.facebook.com/Minus40MB/) are proudly waving the third-wave flag in 2017! We talked to them about the upcoming Fear the Skanking Dead show (Oct. 27 at the Windsor), how they got into the genre in the first place, and much more. Since Minus 40 doesn't have any official recordings yet, you'll hear a bunch of live stuff (from one of their previous gigs) throughout this recording. If you like this podcast, please support it. At patreon.com/witchpolice, you can help us keep pumping out quality podcasts about the Winnipeg music scene for as little as $1 a month. WR726: Freddy and the Fire Nation

Fred Warner, bassist and bandleader of jazz fusion outfit Freddy and the Fire Nation, is back on the show after first appearing on a Quick Hits episode last year.We talked about the band’s upcoming releases, about focusing on a slick, produced sound versus “that greasy goodness”, playing shows, and much more.   Just a heads-up that there were some technical difficulties on this one (as heard in the intro), but it's still a fun listen. Also, since the Fire Nation's full-band recordings have yet to be released, the songs you'll hear on this podcast are Fred's solo demos. This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company, who have brand new Witchpolice merch in the works! Watch for that! Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on Patreon! You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! You can also throw a one-time tip via Buymeacoffee. As always, if you like the podcast, please tell a friend or 20! Rate and review on your podcast player of choice! Word of mouth is still the main way Witchpolice Radio reaches new ears. WR045: Big Flaming Pile

This week, it's a Sam solo-host job, with three guests: the brain-wizards behind DIY t-shirt manufacturers/filmmakers Big Flaming Pile.   In a rare remote show, this time from BFP Headquarters in Winnipeg's West End, the trio of Derek Heaman, Alex McPhaden and Brian Griffith talk band merch, rural metal shows and this week's randomly-generated theme word: polar. These guys are best known today for their merch biz (highly recommended), but they started out doing no-budget filmmaking way back in the 1990s, including such gems as Cop Fiction. For the past 10 years or so, they've been moonlighting in the rarely-performing punk rock group the Damn Dirty Apes, whose 2004 debut Mixed Ape can be downloaded from Witchpolice. They also performed live at the end of this episode. ...
