Show Notes

Third-wave ska is back, and it's found an unexpected home in Winnipeg's large, vibrant Filipino community! [Ragdolls](http://www.facebook.com/pg/ragdollsSKA/) are inspired by the genre's '90s heyday and lay claim to being the city's first and only all-Filipino ska group. We talk about their musical and cultural roots, the ongoing appeal of ska music, and navigating Winnipeg's wider music community as relative newcomers. Although Ragdolls haven't recorded any original music (yet), they have a wide range of live performances available on [YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk4EGSv98GM3WEOhCz5ppxA), which is where the songs in this episode are from. This episode brought to you by our friends at the Park Theatre, who are presenting '[Buffy Prom](http://https://www.facebook.com/events/222171375002264/)' on June 17! It's a fully-themed Buffy the Vampire Slayer prom/dance party featuring DJ K Chedda and awesome '90s music, plus a costume contest and door prizes. The episode is also brought to you by [Fourth Quarter Records](http://www.fourthquarterrecords.com/), your home for quality local hip-hop, as well as merchandise like the glorious 3Peat hoodies you've been seeing everywhere lately.

WR001: First Show

So we finally got around to doing a podcast. I've been talking about this idea for years, and it came to fruition a few days ago when I sat down with Jon Askholm and Rob Crooks ** ** and recording a rambling, over-long 'radio show'. The format, if you want to call it that, was that we would each play records and discuss them, and despite a slow start, it actually started working out. We'll be ironing out the kinks in subsequent weeks (it's going to be a weekly show), cutting the show down to an hour and having a weekly theme... but here's the raw, unpolished debut episode of **Witchpolice Radio**. ...

Country storyteller [Ridley Bent](http://www.ridleybent.ca/) is back with his first new record in four years, and he sits down to talk about the new album, his band the Killer Tumbleweeds, his impressions on Winnipeg's music scene as an outsider (albeit one who has been living here for about a decade already), and much more! Head down to [the Park Theatre this Thursday (April 5)](http://www.facebook.com/events/2064772493805421/) for the release of the new album, featuring opener [Kevin Roy](http://www.kevinroymusic.com/) (a familiar name to regular Witchpolice listeners)!
