Show Notes

Jon couldn't make it to the recording session, so he was temporarily replaced by Mr. Dave Halcrow, of local bands like The Brat Attack and Talk City (who had one song on the Be Our Friend compilation, but I'm hoping to get more of their music on here.) Dave was a good substitute, and played stuff that neither Rob nor I would have otherwise listened to, so it was cool. Expect more guest hosts in future, as our schedules are such that getting all three of us in a room at the same time isn't always a given. Rob is going to Europe soon, so we'll have some fill-in hosts while he's gone as well.

WR145: Dark Forest

It's a change of scenery this week! Instead of talking to musicians, Sam hung out with some of the minds behind Zell-Koj Studio's excellent made-in-Manitoba horror flick Dark Forest. Producer/writer/director Roger Boyer, producer/camera/editor Craig Guiboche and actor Dennis Scullard (who plays the bloodthirsty maniac) sat down to talk about the indie movie biz, the process of getting a project from an idea to the big screen (Dark Forest played at Winnipeg's Towne 8 cinema) and much more! ...

WR202: UMFM Pledge-O-Rama Mixtape

Every year around this time, we head down to UMFM's studio to record a live on-air episode in support of the station's Pledge-O-Rama fundraiser. We've done it every year since 2013, but this year we ran into a conflict. Our scheduled live episode was the same night as our live Shoot First, Ask Questions Later event onstage at the Handsome Daughter ...so instead of a live episode, we aired (last Sunday) a clip show, essentially. We're calling it a "mixtape" because -- similar to last year's "mixtape" episode -- it's basically a compilation of some of the live performances we've had on the show over the past year. This certainly isn't a full document of the 2016 performances, though. There are a number of excellent live tunes that didn't fit due to time restrictions (and you can check those out here). ...
