Show Notes

I had a great conversation with Winnipeg (by way of Rio de Janeiro) veteran artist Marco Castillo!

It's a wide-ranging chat about his experiences coming to Canada as a musician, being more versatile than strictly a Latin artist, navigating the world of streaming, cultural connections through music, and much more.

This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company.

WR472: Andrina Turenne

Quarantine-cast continues! Here's a fantastic remote conversation with singer-songwriter [Andrina Turenne](http://www.instagram.com/drunita/)! You may know her from past projects like [Chic Gamine](http://chicgamine.bandcamp.com/), Madrigaïa or Rudimental, but Andrina is now working on new solo material she’s excited about putting out in the world. We talked about the new music, about being a working musician during a pandemic, about being a bilingual artist and performing French music in a region where it’s a minority language, and much more. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), by StevO and the [Beer Boutique](http://www.facebook.com/beerboutiquewpg/), and by [Book of Ghosts](http://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Musician-Band/Book-Of-Ghosts-113180690050815/). WR047: Live on UMFM

FEB. 2022 NOTE: Dave having been one of 600+ musicians interviewed on this show over the past decade DOES NOT mean anyone involved condones either the incident he was recently arrested for OR the various disgusting things he was accused of a few years prior. At the time of this podcast, he was just a guy in a band.   The podcast is usually prerecorded in a casual basement setting, often weeks prior to appearing on this website and months before being aired on 101.5 UMFM in Winnipeg. This week, however, is UMFM's annual Pledge-O-Rama fund drive, so we made the trek down to the UMFM studios at the University of Manitoba to do a live on-air broadcast.   Fortuitously, Dave Z, of such bands as The Brat Attack and Dead Peasants Revolt, happened to have one day left in his trip to Winnipeg from his new home in St. John's, Newfoundland, so he appeared as our guest. Former Brat Attack drummer -- and once and future Up n' Atom drummer -- Johnny Perrin made a surprise visit to the station while the show was underway and became guest number two.   UMFM's pledge drive runs until Oct. 25, so depending when you read this, there may still be time for you to support campus/community radio. There are a ton of amazing incentives for making a pledge. Just check out the station's website and be sure to mention Witchpolice Radio if you're planning on donating! ...

WR444: Plymouth Breeze

It's an interview with Winnipeg musician Brendan McLean, whose new [Plymouth Breeze](http://plymouthbreeze.bandcamp.com/releases) project – described as a “punk suite” – is a really cool, experimental record (with cello!) and well worth some time in your earholes. We talk about that project, his other bands ([The Uglies](http://the-uglies.bandcamp.com/) and [Sit Calm](http://sitcalm.bandcamp.com/)), reminisce about the local ska scene, and much more. This episode is brought to you by our pals at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), as well as the [Beer Boutique](http://www.facebook.com/beerboutiquewpg/), managed by Winnipeg punk mainstay [StevO Nelson](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/wr440-stevo-nelson-37f6eda874119e/). ...
