It's another Manitoba-adjacent episode: a conversation with Toronto (by way of Winnipeg, of course) solo guitarist John Testar!
We talked about free improvisation vs classical training, John’s upcoming album, the difficulty defining his experimental sound, the benefits of silence, and much more!
This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company.

We talk to a lot of musicians on this show, but there are aspects of the music biz that go beyond just the performance on stage. For this episode, Sam talked show posters with graphic designers/illustrators **[Nyco Rudolph](http://nycorudolph.com/)** , **[Tiff Bartel](http://tiffbartel.tumblr.com/) ** and returning guest **[Allan Lorde](http://www.allanlorde.com/) ** (whose previous appearance was our [most popular episode of 2013](http://www.witchpolice.com/2013/12/top-10-podcasts-of-2013.html)). Recorded with a portable device on location at Nyco's studio ( _art_ studio, not recording studio) in downtown Winnipeg. ...
Since Rob Crooks is still in Europe, we brought in another guest host this week -- Tim Haverluck of local bands The Stabs, the Smash Brothers, the Red River Ramblers, and awesome back-in-the-day punk bands like Kirby and Gherkin. In a first for this program, Tim performed a live song at the end of the show. It was meant to illustrate a particular guitar style he was talking about, but I really like how it turned out, and I'm going to encourage all of our future guests (assuming they're muscial) to do the same. This show, somehow, also marks the first time we've ever played a local band on-air, as KEN mode's "The Hammer Party" fit the theme. And yes, Tim, that's "KEN mode," not "Keb Mo'." ...

The Burnt album release show takes place this Friday at The Good Will. If you like this podcast, please support it on Patreon. For as little as $1 a month, you can help us improve all aspects of the show going forward, from equipment to a new website...and you'll get access to bonus material! Thanks to everyone who has supported the show so far, including our newest patron, Myles Erickson! ...
