Show Notes

Unconventional solo artist [Dalphon Black](http://www.youtube.com/user/wolfeman323232/videos) is on the show to talk about his current project, creativity without necessarily having the formal training to do it the “right” way, non-music, the joy of discordance, and much more! This episode brought to you by [Lana Winterhalt](http://lanawinterhalt.bandcamp.com/), [Sean Burns](http://seanburns.bandcamp.com/), and [Black-Eyed SUZIE](http://[[text](http://)](http://)www.black-eyedsuzie.com/)! Don’t forget to check out some socially-distanced shows at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), who have slowly reopened after a long COVID-19 closure. Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case!

WR421: Alex Seville

In the late '90s, I played in a ska band called [Grandpa's Army](http://www.witchpolice.com/2009/04/every-grandpas-army-song-ever.html), and my old friend Alex Seville was the keyboard player. Alex has been living in San Francisco for the past few years, where he’s not playing music, but is – in a turn surprising to anyone who knew him in Winnipeg – participating in freestyle rap-based improv. We talk about all of that, plus the weird creative projects we did back in the day (including a [documentary about Grandpa's Army](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoMrwRIHrhk&list=PL7AAE58E5EC81BEB4)) that - in a roundabout way - eventually led to me doing this podcast. Songs on this episode: Grandpa's Army - "Train to Hicksville" Grandpa's Army - "The Land of Nod" (both live recordings) A Auspicii - "Boris" (weird backwards thing we did) Jesse Matas feat. Confucious tha Ruthless - Rolling in the Juicebox (recorded by Alex) This episode is brought to you by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/), who are hosting the second annual [Manitoba Podcast Festival](http://www.facebook.com/mbpodfest) Sept. 29. It's also brought to you by MCMA Award-nominated country artist [Brian Jacobs](http://brianjacobsmusic.ca/), whose debut solo record '[Highways and Backroads](http://https://brianjacobs.bandcamp.com/album/highways-backroads)' is available now! ...

WR163: Polish Music Exchange

This week, we're talking about the fourth edition of the Polish Music Exchange, a semi-annual 'celebration of popular and contemporary music with an Eastern European twist'! To promote the event, we hung out once again with Arturo of Polish-Canadian dub wizards Hypernashion alongside Unkl Elephant's Maclean, who represented the non-Polish (or "exchange") part of the upcoming gig. ...

WR148: Greg Arcade / Aaron Starr

For this week's episode, we caught our old friend (and frequent guest) Greg Arcade at a rehearsal with fellow made-in-Manitoba country singer Aaron Starr and rhythm section Josh Ayers and Nathan Kehler (both of whom chime in here and there throughout the show). Because there were other people rehearsing in the same building, to get some quiet, we decided to record in the back of a van. It kind of worked. There's some weird humming at the beginning and a train going by at one point, but otherwise it's all good! We talk country and "upset" songs. ...
