Show Notes

Bassist, music teacher, and YouTuber Aaron Bacon isn't new to the podcast – he's been on Witchpolice Radio before as a member of both [Dizzy Mystics](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/35c82ec809bf42/) and [Aphelion](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/368a3bad6675d2/) – but we've never talked about this project before. [Bacon's Bass Place](http://www.facebook.com/BaconsBassPlace/) is Aaron's all-purpose online presence for teaching bass techniques, vlogging, podcasting, and a lot more. We have a conversation in the food court about the project, where it's going, how it got started, and a lot more. Stay tuned to the end of the episode to [hear an example](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMUpDt7KCnk) of one of Aaron's bass lessons! This episode is brought to you by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/), who are presenting this year’s Manitoba Podcast Festival on Sept. 29! You’ll also want to check out a [show Sept. 6 at the Cavern](http://www.facebook.com/events/405665890061421/), featuring a trio of past guests on the podcast – [Joe Curtis Band](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/368d6cb7dccec0/), [Paige Drobot](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/37461d930714ac/), and [Heartsleeve](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/3790b3f76eba1e/). It’s hard to think of a better or more eclectic lineup. ...and go out and grab the debut record by new local metal fusion band [Book of Ghosts](http://www.instagram.com/bookofghostsofficial), which dropped everywhere Aug. 27!

WR206: The Big MIx-Up 3 live at The Park Theatre

We're back with another edition of our ridiculous live improvised music show, the Big Mix-Up! The third installment took place Oct. 30 at Winnipeg's historic Park Theatre. The premise of the show remains the same: Winnipeg musicians from across a wide spectrum of genres come together and form randomized 'bands' to perform improvised music on stage. The genres and themes of their songs are based on audience suggestions. Mix-Up 3 may not have had a massive turnout (due to it being the tail-end of the Halloween weekend), but it did feature a powerhouse performance from musicians Harley James Flett, Joel Klaverkamp, Jesse Bercier, Trevor Graumann, Jill Alexander, Seamus Hamilton-Pattison, Drew Diduke, Alexis Flower, Paul Durrant, Maclean Thiessen and Lasha Mowchun. ...

WR522: Riel

Local Metis folk singer [Riel](http://www.instagram.com/this_is_riel/) -- formerly known as [A Rebel Named Riel](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr317-a-rebel-named-riel-36992bdcad863c/) -- is on the show to talk all about his new solo persona, more emotional songwriting, upcoming new music, and much more! We also touch on his rewarding (musical) day job, as well as Manitoba’s Indigenous music scene! Because his new stuff is coming out imminently, but isn't quite ready yet, we didn't include any of the songs on the episode, which means it's a bit shorter than usual, but it's a really fun chat -- and the songs are worth the wait, based on the previews he shared with me. This episode brought to you by the Gumshoe Strut’s new [Heartbeat EP](http://thegumshoestrut.bandcamp.com/album/heartbeat-ep) from Saskatoon Folk Rap Records! Check out our pals at [Devine Shirt Company](http://devineshirtcompany.ca/) for your merch needs, and congratulations to the [Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/) on its 15th anniversary! Join us at the third annual [Manitoba Podcast Festival](http://www.facebook.com/mbpodfest/), which takes place entirely online, Sept. 26-27! Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! ...
