Show Notes

When I transferred the huge Witchpolice archive over to the current hosting site, about 50 episodes from 2013-2014 got missed. Although they've always been available, buried on the old Witchpolice site, they've never been formally discoverable on podcast platforms like Spotify or Apple Podcasts. I [recently asked listeners](http://www.facebook.com/WitchpoliceRadio/posts/2248282975270760) which of these lost episode(s) they'd like to hear re-released, this one – with Julia Ryckman, a/k/a [Slattern](http://www.juliaryckmanslattern.com/) – was easily the most-requested. At the time this episode (WR084) originally came out in July 2014, Witchpolice Radio had a very different format. We (I wasn't the only host!) weren't only interviewing local musicians, but were asking them to select songs from their own record collections based on randomly-generated theme words. Due to the sketchy legality of broadcasting other people's songs without permission, the selections are edited out of this episode, but it's still a great conversation, and was one of my favourites of the early years of the podcast. This episode is brought to you by Osborne Village’s new pop-up record store, [Old Gold Vintage Vinyl](http://www.instagram.com/oldgoldvintagevinyl204/), and by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/).

WR220: The Big Mix-Up Allstars

On Jan. 29, we took our ongoing series of improvised Big Mix-Up live shows to the logical next step and presented an allstar edition, featuring some of our favourite performers (along with a couple of ringers) from the previous shows. This installment of the Mix-Up featured Jill Alexander, Greg Arcade, Tim Haverluck, Harley James Flett, Kumaran Reddy, Sam Little, Ashley Bieniarz, Jon Askholm, Grant Partridge, Paul Durrant, Darryl Reilly, Aaron Young,Rob Busch and Josh Ayers. As usual with these things, there was so much going on onstage that we didn't have a convenient way to record off the board, so we just set up our recorders in the room. Quality is a little spotty, but you absolutely get the feel for how chaotic and fun these things are. Huge thanks to the Park Theatre and especially sound guy Matt Mayor for putting up with this live craziness time and again. We really appreciate it. ...

WR503: Mellifera

It's a conversation with Matt McLean, from folk project [Mellifera](http://www.melliferaband.com/), in which we talked about metal vs folk, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter's new Covering Manitoba series (which launches this week), his upcoming EP, “folk music with balls”, and a whole lot more! Don’t forget to check out some socially-distanced shows at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), who have slowly reopened after a long COVID-19 closure. Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! ...
