Show Notes

We ditched the theme word this week to devote 20 minutes at the end of the show to a three-song live performance by this week’s guests, Winnipeg blues-rawk trio The Tims. Blending blues, country, soul, rock, punk and more, The Tims are working on a debut album for a summer release and have been tearing up bars, house shows and more along the way.

WR390: Michael Falk

Michael Falk is the artistic director at [Jazz Winnipeg](http://www.jazzwinnipeg.com/), as well as the man behind [Head in the Sand Records](http://headinthesand.ca/) and the former frontman of [Les Jupes](http://lesjupes.bandcamp.com/)... among many other roles in the Winnipeg music scene. We talk about all of that, this year's Jazz Fest lineup, and much more on this episode. Full disclosure: I do [freelance work for Jazz Winnipeg](http://www.jazzwinnipeg.com/blog/2019/2/23/welcome-to-alleyways), although I don't think it affects this podcast in any conflict-of-interest-y way. I would've wanted to have Mike on the show regardless. Also: I tried out the new recording gear for this episode (thank you everyone). As you can hear, I have a bit more practicing to do. Mike came through great, but I sound a bit distant. I figure with every episode I do, I'll get more an more familiar with the recorder and things will start to sound better and better. This episode brought to you by our pals at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/)! Don't forget to support our friends at [Dub Ditch Picnic](http://dubditchpicnic.bandcamp.com), who are [trying to clear out as much stock as possible](http://www.facebook.com/crizwell/posts/10156105481525636) to cover some medical costs. ...

WR679: Cheap Heat

The pro wrestling-inspired power-pop punks of Cheap Heat sat down for a quick interview on the podcast! We talked about their new record, the Rope Break Records label, using wrestling (which I, admittedly, don’t know much about) as subject matter/symbolism in their songs, and much more. This episode brought to you by our pals at Devine Shirt Company! Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on Patreon! You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case! You can also throw a one-time tip via Buymeacoffee. As always, if you like the podcast, please tell a friend or 20! Rate and review on your podcast player of choice! Word of mouth is still the main way Witchpolice Radio reaches new ears. WR108: Marcin Cienski

Happy new year! We're kicking off the third calendar year of this show's existence (kind of... it started in late 2012) with an episode hosted by Jon and special guest host **[Dominika Dratwa](http://www.dominikadratwa.com/). ** They talk "sphere" songs with **[Marcin Cienski](http://www.marcincienski.com/)** , a realist painter from the Philadelphia by way of Poland. Marcin's work is [currently showing in New York City](http://envoyenterprises.com/), and he chatted with Jon and Dominika about his experience coming to the United States from Europe, the inspiration behind his often dark paintings and more! ...
