Show Notes

Happy holidays! This week's episode features **Kevin Strang** , drummer for Winnipeg post-punkers **[Pop Crimes](http://popcrimes.bandcamp.com/)**. Kevin also owns/operates the **[Bonzer Records](http://bonzerrecords.bandcamp.com/)** label. In a rare (for us) one-host/one-guest podcast, Sam hung out in Kevin's apartment to talk about the randomly-generated "banana" theme, touring, releasing vinyl, Cuban rap and more.

WR291: Ragdolls

Third-wave ska is back, and it's found an unexpected home in Winnipeg's large, vibrant Filipino community! [Ragdolls](http://www.facebook.com/pg/ragdollsSKA/) are inspired by the genre's '90s heyday and lay claim to being the city's first and only all-Filipino ska group. We talk about their musical and cultural roots, the ongoing appeal of ska music, and navigating Winnipeg's wider music community as relative newcomers. Although Ragdolls haven't recorded any original music (yet), they have a wide range of live performances available on [YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk4EGSv98GM3WEOhCz5ppxA), which is where the songs in this episode are from. This episode brought to you by our friends at the Park Theatre, who are presenting '[Buffy Prom](http://https://www.facebook.com/events/222171375002264/)' on June 17! It's a fully-themed Buffy the Vampire Slayer prom/dance party featuring DJ K Chedda and awesome '90s music, plus a costume contest and door prizes. The episode is also brought to you by [Fourth Quarter Records](http://www.fourthquarterrecords.com/), your home for quality local hip-hop, as well as merchandise like the glorious 3Peat hoodies you've been seeing everywhere lately. ...

WR359: Last Chance Gang

Soul is back in Winnipeg! Three members of the city's newest soul merchants,[ Last Chance Gang](http://www.facebook.com/lastchancegang), are on the podcast to talk about their new group, breathing new life into an old sound, and adding a Winnipeg flavour to get-on-yer-feet R&B! They don't have any official releases yet, nor have they played many shows, but the band – which includes veterans of the local music scene – have made a few excellent [live demo recordings](http://lastchancegang.bandcamp.com/album/last-chance-gang), which you can hear on the podcast. This epsiode was brought to you by our friends at the [SUNWOLF](http://thesunwolflabel.com/) label, who are releasing the debut by Katie & the Wolves March. 22, as well as by Winnipeg’s own [Death Cassette](http://deathcassettemusic.bandcamp.com/releases), who are performing at the Handsome Daughter on Feb. 23.
